Adam Bland has made an immediate impression on the Canadian Tour since earnings his card last month at the San Diego qualifying tournament, winning twice in his first four starts.
His first win came in the 2007 San Jose International Open where he carded a final round 67 to advance to a 4 way play-off. At this event Bland became the first qualifying school graduate to win his Tour debut since Anders Hultman in 2003. He is also the first Australian to win since Scott Hend prevailed at the 2002 Victoria Open (thats Victoria, Canada, not Australia!).
At the 2007 Ford Culiacan Open, the 24-year-old rookie fired a final-round 4-under 67 to end the week at 18-under 266 - looks like he’s starting to make a habit of 67’s in the final round to win! That makes it two wins from four starts, and places him comfortably on top of the Rolex Order of Merit.
Turning at 2-under on Sunday, Bland bogeyed the 12th before bouncing back with eagle on the par-5 13th. With Harris putting the pressure on, Bland responded with birdies on 15 and 18 to runner-stamp the triumph.
“It was an up and down round,” said Bland. “I’m pretty lucky to get away with winning this one.”
While the eagle may have been the turning point of the day, Bland felt a crucial up-and-down par save on 11 set the table for his late-round run.
“That was big. If I had made bogey there, it may have hurt the confidence.”
The Canadian Tour now moves to Vallarta for this week’s Riviera Nayarit Classic, the third of four Mexico events.
