2007 Toyota Southern Classic
The Von Nida Tour is starting to wind down for the Australian summer, with just the 2007 Hahn SA PGA Championship at Blue Lake Golf Club and the 2007 WA PGA Championship at The Cut Golf Club left after this event.
The 2007 Toyota Southern Classic is being held at Woolooware Golf Club in the Sutherland Shire, just inland from Cronulla (Google Map) on March 22 to 25. With a state election thrown in on the 24th as a bonus!
Marc Leishman is the defending champion, and along with Scott Draper, who recently created headlines around the world after winning the Riverside Oaks NSW PGA Championship, is part of an all star field entered in the $100 000 event.
Joining Draper and Leishman are four other Von Nida Tour winners including US Nationwide Tour player Euan Walters (1999 WA PGA Championship & 1999 NSW PGA Championship), Brad McIntosh (2004 Toyota Southern Classic), Paul Marantz (2006 NSW PGA Championship) and Ricky Schmidt (2006 Queensland Open) who will all be hoping to add to their Von Nida trophy’s.

Removing Loose Impediments On The Green
Look over your line to the hole when sizing up a putt. If there are loose impediments (twigs, leaves, stones, duck droppings…) you should remove them as they can throw your putt off considerably.
You can use a towel or hat to brush these away, you don’t just have to use your hand.
Pay close attention […]
Know When To Stop Practicing
When practicing, avoid hitting balls when you are tired or have sore muscles.
Hitting shots whilst you are not 100% can promote bad habits in your swing to compensate for your body’s state. You may also injure yourself easily if your back, neck or leg muscles are sore.
Listen to your body and practice when you […]
Hitting Wedge Shots Close To The Hole
Most high handicappers hit wedge shots high into the air and hope they come down close to the hole.
A better way to hit accurate wedge shots is to choke down on the grip a bit and make a shorter back swing. Then accelerate through the ball and finish with the club head low in […]
Are You Lined Up Correctly?
When playing, set your club up behind the ball and take a look at the target. Draw your eyes back to your club.
Look at the leading edge (bottom) of the club face to see that it is square to the target.
Looking at the ball and the centre of the face or at the top […]
Strategy For Short Putts
When you have a three or four foot putt, make sure you guard against the most common faults of missing.
Hit the ball with enough force that it always gets to the hole and maybe a few inches past it if you miss.
Many putts are left short or tail off because of a lack of speed. […]
Weight Shift
A common fault for many high handicappers is to sway to the right on the back swing (for right handed players) and then top the ball or hit behind it because they are stuck on their back foot.
To try and fix this, go to the range - you’ll need one with a grassed tee area […]
Tee shot routine
Often the most daunting shot to hackers is the tee shot off the first tee. People are coming and going, there’s noise from the pro-shop, and of course it seems half the city is standing behind, watching you and waiting for you to tee off. You’re also hoping desperately you don’t mess it […]
Senden Says…
“I’ve been striking the ball all week,” Senden said after finishing second to Mark Calcavecchia at the Pods Championship.
Really? Striking the ball all week? Just as well you play golf?
