Marc Leishman successfully defended his title at the 2007 Toyota Southern Classic.
Leishman carded a final round of three under 67, to basically steal the victory by one shot from overnight leader Andrew Bonhomme. Leishman finished at 11-under-par.
Playing in the second last group, Leishman’s title defence looked shot when he trailed Bonhomme by six shots with eight holes to go. Fortunately he birdied the 14, and then followed that with iron shots that shaved the holes at the tough seventeenth and eighteenth. Each left him with tap in birdies which he converted. he was then in the clubhouse with the lead at eleven-under-par, and had a nervous wait to see what Bonhomme would do.
Needing a par on the last to force a play-off, Bonhomme found the pressure a bit much and messed up his drive off the tee. Getting into trouble as his shot drifted on the wind into the right rough. His approach came up short of the green and after chipping to six feet had a putt to force a play-off. Bonhomme’s putt shaved the hole but wouldn’t drop, giving Leishman his second Toyota Southern Classic and Bonhomme’s second runner-up finish for the year.
