2007 Philippines Open - Delayed
Today (11th January) was to be the start of the 2007 Philippines Open at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club. Whoever came up with that name should get a medal!
The defending champion is Australian Scott Strange.
However in a press release, the Asian Tour has been advised by the National Golf Association of the Philippines (NGAP) that the event has been delayed whilst they are finalising details. Read the press release here.
The Philippine Open is actually one of the world’s longest running men’s golf tournaments. It was first held in 1913 and it is also Asia’s oldest golf tournament as well as Asia’s oldest National Golf Open. Arguably the most famous golfer who has won the tournament is five times British Open champion Peter Thomson (1964). Norman Von Nida has also won the event in 1938 and 1939.
Other Australian winners are Bruce Crampton (1959), Frank Philips (1960) and Adam Le Vesconte (2005).
