Benefits to the Australian PGA Order of Merit
To qualify, a player must participate in at least four tournaments in a single season.
The major benefits the Order of Merit offers are special overseas playing privileges for the top finishers. Breakdowns of the privileges available in 2007 are as follows:
2007 Open Championship: Top 2 finishers
2007 US Open Championship: Top 2 finishers if within Top 75 of OWGR
2007 American Express Championship: Top 3 finishers
2007 Memorial Tournament (US TOUR): Leading finishers gain eligibility for possible selection into event
2007 Dunhill Links Championship: Leading 12 players available from top 30
Final Stage 2007 US Qualifying School: First 3 players available from top 10
Final Stage 2007 European Q-School: Leading 3 available from top 30 finishers
Final Stage 2007 Japan Tour Q-School: Leading 3 available from top 20 finishers
The PGA TOUR first introduced the Order of Merit concept in 1973. Stewart Ginn was the inaugural winner and since then, Greg Norman has won the title on six occasions, Bob Shearer four times and Peter Senior, three.
