Can Peter Lonard, winner here in 2002 and 2004, make 2006 his year as well? He shot seven under par today to make his total 11 under and take a one shot lead over current New Zealand Open champion Nathan Green, South Australian Wade Ormsby, New South Welshman Paul Gow and Queensland’s Rod Pampling. Looks like Paul Gow is now over his jet lag!

What is surprising here is that Green is in the hunt so soon after rushing back from his win in Auckland to play in the Holden Scramble on Monday.

Adam Scott seems to have woken up today and decided to play, sinking seven birdies to bounce back and be five under for the championship alongside Robert Allenby and Geoff Ogilvy. Given their class, and the fact it is a resort course, you would not put it beyond them to make up the six shot deficit to Lonard.

Actually as it is a resort course why isn’t Stuart Appleby in the lead? Or does he just save that for Hawaii?

Of those missing the cut, perhaps Greg Chalmers was the biggest surprise after two top tens in the last two weeks but for those that remain there is much at stake including the Order of Merit title which Nathan and Richard Green and Nick O’Hern could still conceivably steal off Kevin Stadler.
