Paul Gow, currently playing the US Tour qualifying school in California, will board a late-night flight from Los Angeles to Brisbane to make the tournament on time

Also on the flight from LA, dashing home to contest the $1.2 million PGA Championship, will be Steven Bowditch and Richard Swift.

The other three Australians at the Q-school’s final stage – Steve Allan (tied 34th), Matt Jones (tied 97th) and Jason Day (tied 131st) – are not playing at Coolum.

But the event has attracted an exceptional field – arguably as strong as at the Australian Open – with US Open champion Geoff Ogilvy, world No. 4 Adam Scott, Stuart Appleby, defending champion Robert Allenby, Rod Pampling, Nick O’Hern, Richard Green, Peter Lonard, Craig Parry, newly crowned NZ Open champion Nathan Green and Japan Open winner Paul Sheehan.
