Senden wins 2006 MFS Australian Open

It took the round of the tournament for John Senden to win the 2006 MFS Australian Open.

Senden signed for a 65 after scoring a birdie on the final hole, but then had to wait for the rest of the field to finish before his win was confirmed.

During the day, as many as six players shared the joint lead at one point - this was after Nathan Green had started alone on top, and Senden completed a fantastic run that saw him improve by 14 shots over his final 30 holes to take the Stonehaven Cup with a course record.

Geoff Ogilvy shared the lead at one stage on the final day when he followed a birdie at the second with three more in a row at seven, eight and nine. He was still equal leader when he birdied 16, but then scored successive pars to finish the day. Ogilvy needed to birdie the last to make it a playoff, but his putt just slid by the hole and consigned him to second as he carded a 67.
