They Ate Their Greens
Nathan and Richard Green are first and second, respectively, after day 1 at the MFS Australian Open.
Whilst most of the east coast is in drought conditions, mother nature had a bit of a play and drenched Royal Sydney last night, and continued to taunt the golfers today with wet and blustery conditions. The temperature didn’t get above 15 degrees (Celsius), and you would be forgiven if you just said “bugger it” and stayed in bed!
On a day when only six players shot sub-par rounds, Nathan Green shot an amazing five under 67 (six birdies and a bogey) to grab the outright lead by two strokes from Richard Green and Jarrod Lyle.
Virtually consigning himself to having the weekend off, Greg Norman carded a 79 (one birdie and eight bogeys), and never really looked comfortable.
Defending champion Robert Allenby shot a five over 77, and has all but ended his title hopes.
